Many people who are using Netgear router wants to know if they can do port forwarding. If you too are one of them, then you can easily forward the port using the steps given in the post. If you encounter any difficulty, then take help of Netgear help and support providers.
Your Netgear router creates a physical firewall between your computer and all other computers connected to the Internet. The firewall is a security feature that prevents others from directly accessing your machine. If you plan to use your computer as a server, such as to conduct an online game or transfer files to other users, you will have to disable part of the firewall through the port forwarding of your computer. You can enable the port-forwarding feature by changing a setting in the Netgear router software menu. To know how to port forward in your Netgear wireless router, go through the instructions below.

Instructions:
  1. Open the Start menu, and then click Search. Type "cmd" in the search box, and then double-click the command-line icon that appears in the search results. Type "ipconfig" at the command prompt and press Enter.
  2. Look in the list of computer information that will appear at the command prompt. Locate the header labeled "IPv4 Address." Note the IP address below the title, which will be a sequence of numbers separated by periods, such as "192.168.1.301."
  3. Close the command prompt. Click the address navigation toolbar at the top of your browser. Type "192.168.0.1" in the toolbar, and then press Enter to access the Netgear router administration menu.
  4. Enter the username and password in the text fields in the center of the window. Type "admin" in both sections if you have not yet changed the user name and password. Click the "login" button at the bottom of the window.
  5. Scroll down to the "Advanced" heading in the lower left corner of the window. Click the link labeled "Port Forwarding" under the "Advanced" heading.
  6. Click the "Service and Name" button. Choose the "HTTP" option in the drop-down menu, whether you will use an HTTP service, such as for an online game, or choose "FTP" if you will use your computer as an FTP server for file transfer.
  7. Click inside the "Server IP Address" text box and enter the IP address that you noted earlier. Click the "Add" button. Click "Save”, and then click "Exit."
