Have you been
using Netgear router to access the internet? Well, you are among those millions
of users who use Netgear router to surf the internet. However, at times, the
router acts up and results in errors like ‘No Internet’. If you too are dealing
with such an error, then you can easily get your router back to its normal
functional state. Here is what you are going to do.
1. Sudden loss of internet
access.
How to troubleshoot the problem?
Note: If you are a dial-up user that converts to a cable or DSL connection,
then keep in mind that some software won’t work when both types of
configurations are present. When you configure a new connection, then the
dial-up connection will stop working. You will have to configure your computer
to connect one way or the other.
1.
Disconnect Netgear Router and connect your PC directly to the Netgear
Modem.
·
If you are not able to access the internet, then contact your ISP.
·
Or, you need to reconnect your router like before and move onto ‘Step 2’.
2.
Log in to the router.
·
Make sure that all the cables are attached to the router and by securing
the computer.
·
The internet LED should be lit.
·
If using a device that is connected to the router using an Ethernet
cable, and then check the LEDs for the ports with cables are lit. If a port LED
with an Ethernet cable isn’t lit, then insert the cable to a different port. If
the port LED still not lit, then check the router manual.
·
If you are using a wireless device, make sure to check the LED on a wireless
adapter if it is lit or not. If it isn’t, then don’t continue with the process
anymore and check the adapter manual for troubleshooting.
·
If all the cables are securely seated with all the LEDs lighting up
properly, here are the steps that you will have to follow:
§ Turn off the router, wait
for a few seconds and turn it back on.
§ If you’re still not able
to log in to the router, reset it to factory defaults.
If you are successful in logging into the router, then you will have to run
the router’s smart wizard followed by performing below-mentioned steps:
·
If you are
router is working on dynamic IP address, then proceed to ‘step 3’.
·
If you see
‘PPPoE’, then configure the router with a username and password given to you by
your ISP. Click ‘Apply’ and move to ‘Step 3’.
·
If you see
a static IP address, then configure the router with IP address for the router,
the address of your ISP’s DNS and default gateway’s address. Your ISP must have
given this information to you. Click ‘Apply’ move to ‘step 3’.
If Smart Wizard
found no IP address, then you need to follow these steps:
·
Turn of the
router and modem.
·
Wait for a
few seconds and turn both devices back on.
·
Repeat
‘Step 2’.
3. Click Smart Wizard ‘Test’ button to access the Netgear
online test page.
If the page is
displaying, then you certainly
have internet access otherwise not.
4.
You need to
confirm whether the router got a valid IP address under ‘Router Status’. Check
the router user manual for more information.
