Hybrid VPN is a kind of VPN that is specifically designed for Netgear Nighthawk routers and gaming consoles. This VPN changes the actual location of the device virtually by altering the IP address. To setup the Hybrid VPN on a router, you can follow the steps mentioned in the post. For any information other than this, go to Netgear help page.
The primary purpose of a VPN is to hide the original IP and assign a virtual IP so as to change the location of a device virtually for some time.
How do they work?
Hybrid VPN works on all the devices which are being connected to the router. You don’t find any need to install VPN service on gaming ports, apps, and devices individually. This means you have the option to protect the network without interfering with the VPN.
Now coming to the steps for configuring Hybrid VPN on Netgear Pro-gaming router, these are as follows:
- Go to web browser from your computer by connecting it to the router’s network.
- Enter login details for your router.
- The login details required username and password.
- The default username is ‘Admin’ and the password is sometimes not required. If asked, you can check from the back of your router.
- Select the ‘Hybrid’ VPN.
- Open ‘VPN setup’ where the basic details will be shown up.
- Enter login details for the VPN service provider.
- Select a country or city for which you are selecting an IP address.
Note: We generally use TCP protocol with our VPN service as it is considered as one of the best protocol for sending the information.
- Click ‘Connect’ to connect the VPN.

- After this, the VPN is active on all the device and traffic is fully protected. If you want to modify the Hybrid VPN, you can with the help of ‘Settings’ under ‘Add service’ feature.

- Repeat process for all the services or apps.
- If asked to select the mode, click on ‘Only VPN service’. If you want to bypass the action, click on ‘Don’t add under VPN’ service.
Note: You may come across certain errors in case you keep on adding all the devices or apps for ‘VPN services’.
- If you have enabled ‘Don’t enable VPN for this service’ option, then it will be bypassed via VPN.
- If you have ‘The only VPN these services’ enabled, then traffic will be routed via VPN.
- All the devices connected to the hybrid VPN are active and secured now. You can start browsing any website without any security threat.
